// CLIMATE & ENVIRONMENT β€” AIK ROSHANI

CLIMATE
& ENV-
IRONM-
ENT

The Earth is an amanah β€” a sacred trust. As its stewards, we are accountable for every tree we fell, every river we poison, every species we silence. Aik Roshani's Climate & Environmental Programmes work to honour that trust β€” for the people living in climate vulnerability today, and for the generations who will inherit tomorrow.

// QURAN β€” 7:31
"And do not commit excess β€” indeed, Allah does not like those who commit excess."
Islam's relationship with the environment is not symbolic β€” it is foundational. We are khulafa (stewards) of the Earth. Wasting resources, polluting water, and destroying nature are not just environmental crimes β€” they are violations of a divine mandate. Aik Roshani acts from this principle.
// The Reality

A Planet in Crisis β€” And Those Who Suffer Most

The world's poorest communities β€” those who have contributed least to climate change β€” are suffering its consequences most acutely. Pakistan, Bangladesh, Yemen, Sudan β€” the nations we serve are on the frontline of climate catastrophe.

Urgent
🌊
Pakistan Floods

Pakistan experiences catastrophic flooding almost every year β€” destroying homes, crops, and livelihoods. The floods of recent years have been among the worst in recorded history, displacing millions and leaving entire regions submerged. Aik Roshani responds with immediate relief and long-term resilience building.

Urgent
β˜€οΈ
Drought & Water Crisis

Balochistan faces devastating drought conditions that strip communities of their primary water sources and agricultural livelihoods. Across our programme countries β€” Yemen, Somalia, Sudan β€” water scarcity is a daily existential crisis. Access to clean water is the foundation of all human dignity.

Ongoing
🌑️
Rising Temperatures

South Asia is experiencing some of the most extreme temperature rises on the planet. For outdoor workers, farmers, children, and the elderly β€” heatwaves are not just uncomfortable, they are lethal. Our programmes address this growing threat through shade projects, cooling centres, and heat-resilient agriculture.

Growing
🌿
Deforestation

Pakistan has lost significant forest cover in recent decades. Deforestation accelerates flooding, destroys biodiversity, and removes the natural climate regulation that communities depend on. Our tree-planting programmes work to reverse this damage β€” rooting communities in environmental resilience.

Critical
🏜️
Desertification

In Africa and parts of South Asia, productive agricultural land is being lost to advancing deserts. Families who have farmed the same land for generations find themselves unable to grow food. Our land restoration and sustainable agriculture programmes help communities fight back against desertification.

Systemic
πŸ—οΈ
Displacement & Migration

Climate change is becoming one of the world's primary drivers of forced displacement. As homes become uninhabitable β€” due to floods, drought, or extreme heat β€” families are forced to migrate, often becoming refugees with nowhere to go. Environmental action is refugee prevention.

What Aik Roshani Is Doing

From emergency flood response to long-term ecological restoration β€” our environmental programmes address both the immediate human cost of climate crisis and the underlying conditions that create vulnerability.

// Water for Life

Clean Water Is Not A Luxury β€” It Is A Right

More than 880 million people around the world lack access to clean water. A single day without safe water is dangerous. A lifetime without it is a death sentence β€” slow, painful, and utterly preventable.

Aik Roshani's Water for Life programme builds deep water wells, hand pumps, water purification systems, and rainwater harvesting projects in the world's most remote and water-scarce communities.

"The best form of Sadaqah is giving water."

β€” PROPHET MUHAMMAD ο·Ί (AHMAD)

A single clean water well β€” built through your Sadaqah Jariyah β€” can serve an entire community for decades. Every cup of water drawn from that well earns you reward.

// Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Islam say about protecting the environment?
Islam has a deeply rooted environmental ethic. We are appointed as khalifa β€” stewards of the Earth β€” with a divine responsibility to protect and preserve it. Wasting water, cutting trees unnecessarily, and polluting the earth are all prohibited in Islamic law. The Prophet ο·Ί himself established protected zones (hima) and encouraged planting trees as Sadaqah. Environmental action is an Islamic obligation, not just a modern concern.
How does a water well work as Sadaqah Jariyah?
The Prophet ο·Ί told us that when a person dies, their deeds cease except for three β€” including ongoing charity (Sadaqah Jariyah). A water well continues to provide clean water to a community for years or even decades after you build it. Every person who drinks from it, every prayer made possible by the ablution water β€” all of this earns continuous reward in your name, long after you are gone.
Why does climate change disproportionately affect the poor?
The communities hit hardest by climate change are those with least resources to protect themselves. They live in flood-prone areas because land is cheaper there. They farm for subsistence, so a single drought means starvation. They cannot afford flood-proof housing, or to relocate when disaster strikes. The cruel irony is that the nations suffering most from climate change β€” like Pakistan β€” have contributed the least to global emissions.
How can I support tree planting through Aik Roshani?
You can donate to our environmental programmes at aikroshani.com/donations. Specify that your donation is for environmental or climate programmes. Our team plants trees in strategic locations across Pakistan and our international programme areas, targeting regions where reforestation will have the greatest impact on flood prevention, biodiversity, and community livelihoods.
Is environmental charity Zakat-eligible?
Environmental programmes that directly benefit eligible Zakat recipients β€” the poor, displaced persons, and disaster-affected communities β€” are Zakat-eligible. For example, clean water provision, flood relief, and drought response programmes that serve the destitute all qualify. Our scholar-verified Zakat policy ensures your Zakat reaches those entitled to receive it.
What is Aik Roshani's approach to sustainable development?
We believe genuine development must be environmentally sustainable β€” otherwise we are creating the problems of tomorrow while solving the problems of today. Every Aik Roshani programme considers environmental impact: we use locally appropriate materials, train communities in sustainable practices, build infrastructure designed for climate resilience, and avoid solutions that create dependency.
